A nice two-part series showing a method for making accordion bindings with precision and, if needed, speed:
One of many new pieces from a new show of Erik and Martin Demaine’s “curved crease sculptures.” Many more photos of this amazing work: Curved Crease Sculpture (2012) by Erik and Martin Demaine. If you haven’t seen Between the Folds yet, you really should (it’s on Netflix streaming or DVD). Everyone I know who has seen it has had their mind blown seeing contemporary origami art and it features, among others, Erik and Martin Demaine, who are interesting (and brilliant) characters.
Fujimoto’s Hydrangea Tessellation, folded from a single 8-inch square of Kraft gift wrapping paper.
Not the most accurate fold in the world… which wasn’t helped by my imperfect cutting of the original square.
Still, while this is classified as a “low intermediate” model, it is somewhat advanced for me, and I was happy to have figured it out.

Finally, a use for at least a few of those useless phone books. (via Recycle a phone book into a pen organizer)
I’m a big fan of the “
sprung carambola” model, even it does start from a pentagon… folding video tutorial available from Sara Adams [carmenSprung-carambola_7811-640 (by nomadClickr)]
Philip Shen is one of my favorite designers, thanks to the elegance and simplicity of many of his models. I particularly like the incense burner, which is simple but elegant and quite sturdy. “Cup, Incense Burner and Dishes - Philip Shen (by gio origami)”

Not exactly origami, by my definition (no cuts, no glue), but very cool nonetheless! (via Origami Paper Bowl made of tea bag wrappers by RutisRoots on Etsy)
Incredibly expressive folding by Dinh Truong Giang, more sculpture than origami. Be sure to check out the other photos in his Gallery.
